Ambassador Ms. / Laila Bahaa ELdin

Executive Director

Since she retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2020, Ambassador Laila Bahaa Eldin has held the position of Executive Director of the Kemet Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge. 
She obtained her BA and MA in Middle East Studies at the American University in Cairo. After graduating, she first worked as an assistant to the editor of «Newsweek» magazine in Cairo in 1983.
She later joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1984, serving as a diplomat until her retirement in 2020.
During her career in the Ministry, she successively worked in several departments: the Department of Relations with Africa, then the Department of Multilateral Relations and International Organizations, where she handled the issue of disarmament and the relationship with the United Nations. She also worked in the Department of Relations with the European Union, followed by a period in the Department of Press and Media and finally, the Department of Human Rights, after which she was appointed Assistant to the Minister for Human Rights.
Laila Bahaa Eldin has held various positions abroad during her diplomatic career. From 1994 to 1998, she was seconded to the Arab League in Washington. From 2000 to 2004, she was posted to the Egyptian embassy in Paris. A year later, she became Geneva's press office director until 2010. Between 2011 and 2014, she was the Ambassador of Egypt to Romania and Moldova. Finally, she concluded her diplomatic career as Ambassador Extraordinary of Egypt to Thailand and Cambodia from 2017 to 2020.
